This is the moment a police officer in Barcelona knocks a huge blade out of a man’s hand using only his truncheon before slamming the suspect to the ground.

The startling images were recorded by an onlooker in the city of Viladecans, in the eastern Spanish province of Barcelona, Catalonia region and show the unnamed cop standing on the pavement facing a man with a huge kitchen knife in his hands.

The pair stare at each other during the standoff and local media report the cop was telling the man not to do anything stupid as he appears to point the blade towards his own neck.

The officer then springs into action, smacking the knife from the man’s hand with his truncheon before slamming him to the ground.

The cop then kicks the man’s back before other officers jump into control the man. Reports state the suspect had been causing disturbances in the Europe Square in the city and had been begging for cash with the knife before the incident with the officer.

It is unclear if the man, who has not been identified, was arrested or if an investigation has been launched. Reports suggest the man bought the huge blade in a fishing shop.
