This is the moment a quick-thinking cop grabs hold of a woman’s clothes and pulls her to safety just as she tries to leap off the side of a 100-foot-high motorway viaduct.

Body-worn video supplied by authorities in the county of Luanping in China’s northern province of Hebei captured officer Wen Shuo’s life-saving actions on 6th November.

In the footage, Wen approaches the young woman as she stands on the edge of a crash barrier on the Daqing-Guangzhou Expressway viaduct.

Colleague Zheng Haiyang and supervisor Zhu Wei follow behind and try to talk the woman down.

However, the woman suddenly leaps forwards off the parapet before they arrive, and Wen grabs hold of the back of her clothes, preventing her from plunging to the ground below.

The woman is brought back to their service vehicle as the video ends.

Zhu was dispatched to the scene with two auxiliary policemen after passing drivers noticed the woman standing on the parapet.

He said: “When we saw the woman standing on the crash barrier, we were also very nervous.

“The viaduct was about 30 metres (100 feet) above the ground. Had she jumped, the consequences would’ve been unthinkable.

“Once we left the vehicle, our two auxiliary officers approached her.

“Zheng Haiyang and I tried speaking to her in order to distract her, and in the hope it would give Wen Shuo more time to save her.”

Wen recalled: “As soon as my colleague spoke, the woman took a step forward and jumped down.

“It was an emergency situation, and I didn’t have a lot of time to think.

“I just grabbed on to her.”

The woman has since been reunited with her family members, but the reason why she attempted to jump off the viaduct was unclear.
