According to the newspaper El Heraldo, victim Charles Martinez was about to get into the vehicle, parked outside a pharmacy, when a gunman approached him from behind and shot him in the head.

The gunman then opened the door and reportedly shot the first victim’s brother in the head.

Another man identified as Abundio Regalado was also injured, but it is unclear if he was accompanying the killed brothers.

According to prosecutors, the police arrested a suspect in the area who admitted to being a member of the Noreste Cartel and leader of a local cell operating in Tamaulipas.

The detainee is suspected of being one of the hitmen used in the shooting.

The police official was allegedly accused of being supportive of the Gulf Cartel and Los Metros gang, two fierce rivals of the Noreste Cartel, in an anonymous report on social networks on 28th August.

Infobae said the attack followed the release of four Noreste Cartel members by judges in Miguel Aleman on 30th October.

The investigation is ongoing.
