A cop who murdered his lover after his wife found out about their affair ended up dead himself when he was gunned down in front of his home.

His widow’s two brothers are now on the run.

The body of medical technician Luciana Nicacio de Oliveira, 23, was found in a stream in Fazenda Peixinho, a rural area of ​​Flexeiras, a municipality in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Alagoas, on 1st December 2022.

The police have now said that she was murdered by her lover, Military Police reserve sergeant Moacir Pereira, who was then himself gunned down in front of his home by unnamed gunmen on 12th January.

His wife and a friend, both unnamed, have been arrested in connection with Luciana’s murder, but it is still unclear who murdered Pereira.

The police said on Monday, 13th March, that they had concluded their investigation into Luciana’s murder.

However, the wife’s two brothers, believed to have carried out the killing along with Pereira, are still on the run.

Police spokesperson Rubens Cerqueira announced the closure of the investigation into Luciana’s death, with the request for the preventive detention of the two brothers.

The brothers, friends of Pereira, are suspected of having helped him murder Luciana.

Investigators said that Pereira killed her after taking her to the stream. She was found with a bullet wound to her temple.

The perpetrators then allegedly retrieved the bullet from her skull using a screwdriver.

Cerqueira said: “The main suspect was the reserve sergeant Moacir Pereira, his two brothers who were his friends, Pereira’s wife, and one of her friends.

“First, I requested a temporary arrest, which the judge granted. Pereira’s wife and her friend were arrested.

“The two brothers are fugitives, but it’s just a matter of time before we catch them.”

According to Cerqueira, the retired sergeant would have masterminded the whole crime, including the attempt to remove the bullet after shooting Luciana.

The suspects are then thought to have used a screwdriver to extract the projectile and make it difficult to identify the weapon used in the crime.

The spokesperson said: “What they did to Luciana was terrible. They took the girl across the river, to Flexeiras, and took a screwdriver… She was killed by a gunshot.

“Pereira and the two brothers started piercing her head to remove the bullet.

“We didn’t find the murder weapon. I requested a search and seizure at Pereira’s house and everyone else’s, but he was later killed. Whoever killed him took the weapon.”

The two brothers are still on the run and it is understood that the investigation into Pereira’s murder is still ongoing.
