A Brazilian cop was shocked to discover that a road victim at an accident site was his 19-year-old daughter who was studying to become a traffic officer.
Police sergeant Severino Gois, 54, was called to the scene of a serious traffic accident that took place on the BR-226 motorway in the Brazilian municipality of Macaiba on 28th November.
On arriving at the scene, he discovered that one of the victims was his 19-year-old daughter, Gabriella Nascimento de Gois. Her boyfriend, 21-year-old Joao Vitor Lima da Silva, also died in the accident.
The young couple had been travelling on motorbike towards the city of Natal when they hit a lorry, the impact of which threw them off the bike and into the lorry window. They died instantly.
Sergeant Gois told local media: “When I arrived at the site, I saw the bike was completely destroyed. The impact was strong. Then I looked behind the bike and I saw a pink helmet. My daughter’s helmet.”
The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and reportedly fled the scene following the crash, suggesting he may have been at fault. His fate is unknown.
Gois has revealed that his daughter was studying to become a traffic officer. “She was a studious girl. Just last week she told me she was going to make me very proud, that she was going to be a federal highway policewoman.”
Gabriella and Joao Vitor had been going out for a year and were planning to get engaged, according to family members.
Joao Vitor has been buried in Macaiba, and Gabriella has been buried at her family home, close to the accident site.
Gois told local media: “The Lord will give me strength.”
