COME HER EWE: Hikers Rescue Rare Sheep From Cliff Face

This is the moment three kind-hearted hikers in north-western China rescue a rare blue sheep entangled in wire on a cliff face.

One of the rescuers – named Mr Dong in local media in Baiyin, Gansu Province – said he and his friends suddenly came across the creature in need on 1st January.

They spotted the blue sheep – a rare and protected species in China – desperately trying to wriggle its way out of a length of wire.

The hikers used a penknife to free the sheep from the trap in their 15-minute rescue.

Phone footage shows them carefully handling the sheep and using a saw blade to cut away the wires.

They later shared the video on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

After a careful operation, they were successful at cutting off the wire, and let the sheep run free.

Mr Dong said that the sheep was very scared at the time and reacted violently.

He said that at first, he considered his own safety, but he felt too sorry to not try and save the animal.

Netizens praised their noble efforts, and user ‘CoCo’ said: “Not only did you save a sheep, you also saved a hunter from prison, what a blessing.”

The bharal (Pseudois nayaur) – more commonly known as the blue sheep – has Tibetan origins and can be found living in mountains in India, Bhutan, China, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan.
