The wife of a Colombian convict on death row in the Chinese city of Wuhan for drug trafficking says he wants to die.

Hector Fabio Osorio Garcia, 50, was arrested in China seven years ago and his wife Marta Rodriguez told local media that they have not had any contact with him for a year.

She also claimed that he is isolated and not allowed any visitors.

Marta Rodriguez said she supported her husband’s wish to die and added: “I ask [for his death sentence] for humanitarian reasons. He is very ill and hasn’t really spoken with anyone in seven years.

“He made a mistake, but he is human, please help us as his situation is bad and even worse now with the virus in the city.”

According to Rodriguez, Osorio Garcia is suffering with kidney problems and is not allowed to receive letters or additional help in the Wuhan prison.

She said: “Since he has been there, I have only received two letters [via the consul]. All I know is what the consul has told me. But when the Duque [current Colombian president] government came in, everything changed and we don’t have a consul anymore and I get no more news about my husband.”

She said the last she heard, her husband pleaded with Colombian officials to have his death sentence carried out as soon as possible due to his ill health and she now supported this wish.

She added: “I was told he asked to have the execution as soon as possible as he did not see any other way out.”
