A bus driver has been sacked after a bemused passenger filmed him jumping up and down next to his seat to keep warm while steering the moving vehicle with one hand.

The bizarre clip was filmed on the streets of Pingyao County, which is in North China’s Shanxi Province, on 6th December.

In the footage, the unnamed bus driver dressed in a thick coat and cap can be seen jumping up and down and doing a running motion as the vehicle slowly rolls along a thoroughfare.

The man, who appears to occasionally look away from the road, steers the vehicle with his left hand as traffic moves past him.

The driver of the route 209 bus was reportedly trying to keep himself warm daytime temperatures hovered just about 0 degrees Celsius.

However, his employers at the Pingyao Genglong Bus Company said the driver was dismissed for the stunt, which it said jeopardised passenger safety.

The statement on 8th December said the vehicle was pulled from its usual bus route for seven days as a replacement was found.

Management was also fined 1,000 RMB (107 GBP) over the embarrassing incident, the company said.

It also promised improvements, including increased supervision and better training.
