This distressing video – seen more than 10 million times online – shows an elderly man piggybacking his granddaughter and failing to notice the youngster’s neck has become caught on a tape barrier.

The incident was captured by a car dashcam in an as yet unidentified city in China on 30th August.

The video shows the vehicle waiting to pass a boom barrier when the grandad ducks under the barricade tape and attempts to cross the front of the car.

But he fails to notice the same tape having caught his toddler granddaughter around the neck, choking her as he attempts to walk forwards.

In the shocking video, the occupants of the dashcam vehicle can be heard gasping and shouting as the grandad does not turn around to check and instead tries to force his way forwards.

With the girl being choked by the barrier tape and nearly falling off her grandad’s back, a man and a woman rush out of the vehicle and help break the plastic tape, saving the tot.

As the video ends, the grandad still appears clueless as to what has happened, and the man explains by putting his hands around his own neck.

The is not thought to have been seriously injured, and social media users have also raised concerns about the tot’s future well-being.

Social media user ‘Maibuchu Dongxi De Dianzhu’ said on China’s Twitter-like website Weibo: “You really shouldn’t let the elderly take care of children on their own. That was far too careless.”

‘Shitou Yulin Zhiye’ added: “It seems he thought the girl was holding on to something and didn’t want to let go, so he kept walking forwards to try to make her let go. He should’ve turned around to look though.”

‘Yewu Nengli Houde Renke’ commented: “What if that were a piece of wire?”
