This is the moment clever rescuers save a dog walker who had fallen through the ice on a frozen lake using nothing but an upturned table.

Li Jianjun and Chan Jingfu, two search and rescue volunteers, heard the female victim’s cries on 5th January.

The pair from the city of Shizuishan, which is in north-western China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, found the woman struggling to keep herself afloat in the freezing cold waters of the nearby Xinghai Lake.

The victim was reportedly walking her dog on the lake’s frozen surface when she fell through, with her concerned pooch seen lingering around its owner she flails her arms in the water.

Mr Li and Mr Chang, who are members of Blue Sky Rescue, China’s biggest not-for-profit civil rescue organisation, found a table and some rope to help the victim.

Footage of the rescue operation shows one of them putting the table upside down on the ice and sliding it towards the dog walker’s location.

She is then dragged out of the water onto the wooden surface.

Mr Li, who said the woman was not seriously harmed, recalled: “Around noon that day, Chan Jingfu and I went downstairs and heard someone crying for help.

“We ran over and saw someone had fallen into the water, so we rescued her.”
