This is the flat where cleaners found a dead OAP amid huge mountains of rubbish and piles of hoarded goods after neighbours complained about the smell coming from inside.

The startling scenes were recorded in the flat in the city of Jagodina in Pomoravlje District in central Serbia after residents complained to the authorities of an awful smell coming from inside.

One resident told local media: “One day a police officer arrived with firemen and opened the door because we reported that a terrible smell was coming from one flat.

“They were in as much horror as us who live at that entrance. The flat is full of rubbish, it’s cluttered, there are rats and mice.”

The video, which was taken before the dead man was discovered, shows the flat completely packed with rubbish from floor to ceiling, with huge piles of plastic bottles blocking up the corridors and rooms.

Local residents reportedly told the authorities that an old man had been living there but that he had not been seen for months.

They said: “He was bringing that rubbish, but with the hot weather the smell became unbearable.”

The residents said that the communal inspection department eventually came to clear out the flat and found a dead man in the piles of rubbish.

The dead man has not been identified and his cause of death is unclear. It is unclear if an investigation has been launched.

Netizen ‘mima’ commented: “Shame on you, you did not talk to the man and if needed help him, really shame on all of you.”
