This is the moment a Land Rover plunges rear first from a third-floor car park together with the worker who was being paid to clean it after he accidentally put it into reverse.

The startling incident occurred at a shopping centre car park in the Pina area of the city of Recife in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco and was recorded by a CCTV camera.

Local media report the car, a Land Rover Discovery, was being washed in the third-floor car park when the man washing it, named in reports as Joab da Silva, 35, accidentally put it into reverse when the engine was running when he was inside the vehicle.

The Land Rover then moved backwards at speed and in the video it can be seen falling boot first from the third floor onto the ground below after smashing through the wall.

Onlookers rush to the scene and another clip shows Silva lying on the ground in pain after being pulled from the wrecked car.

Reports state the 35-year-old was taken to the nearby Restauracao Hosptial where he is being treated for several broken bones. He is reportedly in a stable condition.

The fire service said the car had fallen from a height of 10 metres (32 feet) and reportedly stated the accident had been caused by an “incorrect manoeuvre” from Silva.

Witnesses reportedly said the car wash worker had not realised the vehicle was an automatic.

Witness Thayson Silva said: “The sound was loud when the metal was broken. Then the car came came falling slowly. He was hurt and pretty dazed when we took him out of the car.”

Local media report there were no other injuries in the accident. The owner of the Land Rover has not been named in reports.
