This is the moment a Chinese thug with a crossbow shoots a pet dog with a poisonous dart and takes its body away so he could sell its meat to restaurants.

The disturbing incident took place in Huiyang County, in Huizhou City in East China’s Guangdong Province and was recorded by the CCTV camera of a local shop whose owner noticed his pet dog of seven years Da Bao had gone missing.

The owner, who has not been named in reports, looked at the CCTV footage and called the police after seeing a man with a crossbow shooting poisonous darts at his dog in the clip.

The video shows the man taking aim and shooting a dart at the dog, who runs under a table but the man fires more darts at it using the crossbow’s flashlight to aim

The thug can then be sen dragging the pooch’s limp body, unchaining it and taking it away. Local media report the thug put the dog’s body in a bag and rode away with it on a scooter.

After 18 hours of investigation police found the suspect, surnamed Zhao, in Baiyun Town, and reportedly found a box of darts with poison.

Zhao is said to have confessed to being the person in the video and said he sometimes shoots dogs to sell for money, reportedly saying it is like a “part-time” job for him.

He also helped police arrest Ms Zhang, the woman who allegedly collects the poisonous dog meat and sells it to restaurants.

The police reportedly found many dead dogs in Zhang’s fridge. All of the bodies had wounds from the darts on them, according to reports.

PETA Asia press officer for China, Keith Guo told Asia Wire: “Here is the reason why everyone should stay away from dog-meat restaurants. And nobody wants to support an industry which benefits from killing beloved pets.”
