This footage shows a concerned Chinese cabbie driving a passenger while wearing a full decontamination suit complete with goggles and a surgical mask.

Video taken by an unnamed female passenger in China’s capital city of Beijing shows her panning around the interior of the taxi during her trip on 25th January.

A bottle of hand sanitiser – a must-have item which has proven effective at killing off lingering traces of the respiratory virus – can be seen in the centre console.

The fully-kitted taxi driver then comes into view, with the driver donning a set of yellow overalls while also wearing a pair of goggles and a surgical mask to prevent infection.

The passenger, who appears to be headed to the airport, tells the driver to get there “as soon as possible”.

The curious woman then asks: “Do you get many clients while dressed like this?”

The cabbie responds: “These are extraordinary times.

“I’m being responsible for myself, and for my family.

“It’s important to have awareness.”

The novel strain of the pneumonia-like coronavirus has now killed 170 people in mainland China, with more than 7,700 confirmed cases in the country.

The World Health Organization has so far stopped short of calling the epidemic a global health crisis, but the UN body is to meet today (30th January) and discuss an escalation of the virus’s status.
