Child Pulled From Rubble Smiles At Rescuers

This is the moving moment a child pulled from the rubble in Turkey appears to give its saviours a big smile as if to say “thank you for saving me”.

In this footage which was obtained by Newsflash from the General Commandership Of the Gendarmerie of Turkey, emergency crews can be seen descending down what appears to be a man-sized hole to reach the child.

The toddler comes out all covered in dirt, but looks incredibly grateful that rescuers were able to find it trapped under what seems to be the ruins of a destroyed home in Kahramanmaras.

Paramedics standing close by take over the child and strap it into a carrier as a large crowd witnessing the miraculous rescue give loud applause.

They cover the child with a blanket to keep it warm before lifting the makeshift stretcher and presumably transferring the child to a local hospital.

The Commandership said in a short statement obtained by Newsflash: “When you smile, let the world smile, my little one. Together we are strong.”

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck early on Monday morning in southern Turkey, devastating the south of the country and northern Syria.

A second earthquake of 7.6 magnitude hit the same region again at 11:24am local time on Monday, causing even more damage.

Turkey’s disaster management agency (AFAD) has said that 31,643 people are dead and over 80,000 injured in the country.
