CHICKEN SURPRISE: Restaurant Shut Down After Video Of Rat Nibbling On Fried Food Emerges Online

Health inspectors have shut down a restaurant in which a rat was filmed enjoying fried chicken in a food display.

The health inspection team swooped on the property as the video that went viral identified several breaches of basic hygiene standards.

As a result, the unidentified restaurant at Pandan Indah in the Malaysia capital Kuala Lumpur was ordered to close the two weeks.

Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the inspection had been ordered following the 15-second video clip in which the rat was seen munching on the fried chicken.

In the caption, the user posted the message: “It’s (happening) right in front of my eyes. I won’t eat at a mamak anymore, I swear.”

He also said that the public should get involved more often in helping to identify breaches of health and safety standards.

He said: “We ordered the restaurant closed down for 14 days after applying section 11 of the Food act 1983.”

The video has almost 2 million views after it was posted online just before Christmas.

Even if it is allowed to reopen in two weeks, its troubles seem far from over.

The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) also issued a Notice of Licence Cancellation Conformation (NPPL) with immediate effect on the Mamak food outlet.
