On-loan Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker is reportedly “very annoyed” and “does not understand the world anymore” after struggling for minutes in the Bundesliga.

The comments came from an anonymous source in a report from German newspaper Bild as on-loan Chelsea midfielder Baker, 24, has struggled for pitch time with Fortuna Dusseldorf in recent months.

The source reportedly said: “The loan from Chelsea is really annoyed about the situation and doesn’t understand the world anymore.”

In an interview with Bild, Dusseldorf manager Friedhelm Funkel, 65, said: “It is part of the job to have disgruntled players.

“There is no such thing as a player who is sitting on the bench that is happy about it. But they sort this out among the circle of their teammates, which is what a coach expects.

“They don’t remain down in the dumps.” He went on to explain that “the bottom line is I have an oversupply of midfielders. We have too many strong players in that area.”

The 24-year-old signed for Dusseldorf on a season-long loan from Chelsea this summer. Despite showing great promise at the start of the season he has seen his minutes go down since early November.

Baker has also played for Reading, Leeds United and Middlesbrough and other on-loan from Chelsea after rising through the ranks.

Dusseldorf are 13th in the Bundesliga with 11 points, just three points above from relegation. They are set to play Hoffenheim Saturday 30th November after coming off a 4-0 loss to Bayern Munich.
