This is the moment Colorado firefighters tackle a wildfire that quickly spread across 460 acres on Monday morning.

The fire broke out just before 10am on 29th June just southeast of Chatfield State Park located in the counties of Douglas and Jefferson in the US state of Colorado.

At around 10.45am, firefighters said the blaze was “moving at a rapid rate of spread”.

The blaze quickly consumed over 460 acres before being contained by firefighters hours later without any structural damage or injuries reported.

According to local media, firefighters had to contend with strong gusts, dry grass and hilly terrain to contain the spread.

Ground crews, a helicopter, one lead plane, a multi-mission aircraft, and two water bombers were reportedly sent to the area to tackle the blaze.

According to reports, firefighters protected two houses from the encroaching flames while several hundred homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Local firefighters said they had contained the fire just before 5pm and that evacuated families could return to their homes.

The sheriff’s office said that a faulty utility pole caused the fire.

The state is reportedly seeing its worst drought conditions in over a year.

Several videos of the local authorities tackling the blaze have been posted on social media by South Metro Fire Rescue and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
