German police have identified a charred body found in a field just before Christmas as a young mother who had been raped before being shot in the head.

A man walking his dog discovered the charcoaled remains in a field in the rural community of Ochtendung in the western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The only clue to her identity was her stud earrings, and police have now identified her identity as 31-year-old Silvia Boycheva, mother of a 10-year-old son.

An autopsy revealed that she died from two gunshot wounds to the head, and the police said she had been violently raped before being killed.

The authorities have now arrested her boyfriend, identified as 34-year-old Mehmet B., on suspicion of her murder.

Lead prosecutor Rolf Wissen, 65, said: “It is a shocking case. He poured petrol over her and set her body alight.”

The suspect is currently being held in custody and is refusing to say anything, according to reports.

Detectives investigating the case believe it was a murder carried out because of relationship problems.

Neighbours told local media that the woman and her son from a previous relationship were often staying with the 34-year-old man, and there were frequent arguments in which police were often called.

Her family have appealed for help to cover the funeral costs and to get her body returned home which has so far raised over EUR 4,000 in three days.

The appeal is being organised by her neighbour and friend Khadidja Bouchelarem who said: “Her family do not have the financial means to cover the funeral costs and therefore I’m trying to help.”(https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8vvS3YNhlP)
