The smiling little lads, both brothers aged five and six, have died in a house fire when their burning bedroom ceiling collapsed on top of them as they huddled together in their room.
The house blaze started in the family home in the neighbourhood of Bairro das Laranjeiras in the municipality of Serra in the eastern Brazilian state of Espirito Santo at 6.44am on 16th August.
The victims’ 65-year-old grandmother and 15-year-old sister, who were also in the burning house at the time, managed to escape with the help of neighbours.

However, it was not possible to save the two brothers, Israel, 6, and Icaro, 5, who were trapped in their bedroom during the fire and were reportedly killed by the ceiling collapsing on them.
Firefighters were only able to recover the children’s charred bodies from the rubble after the blaze had been extinguished.
Fire Department chief of operations Lieutenant Schulz said: “When we first started fighting the fire, the situation with the victims did not look positive.

“During the blaze, the roof began to weaken. As it was made of wood, it gave way in the heat and ended up falling on top of them. Only after removing the rubble were we able to identify them.
“They were lying side by side, very close but in opposite positions.”
The fire started in the children’s bedroom and quickly spread to another bedroom and a kitchen when neighbours saw the flames and tried to help the family.

The boys traumatised sister confirmed she could hear her brothers screaming because they were trapped, but it was not possible to get them out in time.
The Fire Department said that the house electrical system was irregular, but it is unclear if an electrical fault caused the blaze and the matter remains under investigation.
