In the video, home fans can be seen fighting with the police towards the end of the match. The thugs launch projectiles at the cops and hurl abuse at them as the supporters’ band continues playing.

Local media report some home fans had tried to invade the pitch as their team were losing 3-2 in the final minutes but the police had stopped them, sparking the brawl which saw 10 officers injured but no serious injuries were reported.

The fighting came after home fan Jose Angel Reina Pinto, 32, had fallen a reported 10 metres (32 feet) from the top tier of the stadium’s south stand.

Local media report Reina was rushed to the University Hospital Santander but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Brigadier General Manuel Antonio Vazquez told local media: “Due to an accident the victim fell from a high part of the stadium and as a consequence of his injuries, lost his life.”

“20 minutes after the incident (Reina’s accidental death) some disturbances occurred and fans tried to enter the turf.

“This resulted in 10 of our officers being injured and taken to health centres. Fortunately at that moment reports surfaced that they were all stable.”

No arrests have been reported however Vazquez told local media that “we have security camera videos as well as testimonies to clear up the case”.

It is unclear if the police plan to seek legal action.

Home side Atletico Bucaramanga lost the match 2-3 leaving them in 15th position with 13 points in the league. Envidago moved up to 13th place with 16 points after Saturday’s victory.
