This world champion power lifter has been placed in custody and accused of attempted femicide after his girlfriend allegedly jumped from a third-story window before saying “you wanted to kill me”.

Judge De Gamas Soler at a Ushuaia court located in the province of Tierra Del Fuego in Argentina has denied champion powerlifter Marcos Martinez a release from preventative custody after he was accused of attempted femicide.

The accusation comes from attorney Daniel Curtale after Martinez’s girlfriend Valeria Saldivia was seen falling from a third-story window at the Monaco hotel in the city of Ushuaia on Monday 11th November.

Reports state Martinez was arrested as prosecutors suspect his girlfriend jumped from the window out of fear he was going to assault her.

Local media report Martinez was taken into custody shortly after the incident and two police officers testified that Saldivia said “you wanted to kill me” after she fell to the ground.

Martinez reportedly said the story required “context” and claimed that she after an argument the two had prior to the accident, Saldivia said she would kill herself if he left her.

Saldivia was reportedly uninjured from the fall as she fell on the roof covering the entrance to the hotel.

Martinez reportedly declared himself innocent and said “she jumped by her own means”.

Local media report a source close to the case said: “He (Martinez) said the woman ‘opened the window and jumped out in the middle of a nervous breakdown’.”

Local media report Saldivia is defending Martinez’s innocence but she claims the fall was “accidental” after she stood on the bed to fix the curtains and in the process accidentally fell out of the window.

Martinez is not suspected of trying to throw Saldivia out of the window as she did not show any signs of a struggle and the size of the window would have allowed her to hold herself back for some time which would have left markings.

Martinez was on his way to Buenos Aires to fly to Las Vegas to participate in a competition at the time of the incident.

It is unclear the time he will be in prison or if there will be a trial.

Martinez was crowned champion in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017 in the Powerlifting World Championships in the under 100 kilogrammes category.
