This is the moment a Mexican drug cartel sends a terrifying message to its rivals by setting two screaming men on fire before shooting them in the head.

According to local media, the clip is a message from the Gulf Cartel (CDG) faction called ‘Metros’ to its rival groups ‘Los Escorpiones’ and ‘Los Ciclones’.

The video was reportedly recorded in the state of Tamaulipas in northern-eastern Mexico near the border with the United States.

The footage shows two unidentified men tied up on the ground in an area of woodland.

The pair are then set on fire, with the flames covering the two men in seconds and they can be heard screaming in pain.

While the two men agonise in the flames, a voice is heard sending a message to Los Escorpiones and Los Ciclones.

The man who is talking on the video says: “This is what is going to happen to all the filthy men of Los Escorpiones and Los Ciclones who are messing around here.”

He adds: “You ‘Negrito’ keep sending your b*stards who robbed and kidnapped innocent women who have nothing to do with this war. The family has to be respected.[…] We are Operativa Gama 16.”

Another cartel member is also heard saying to the burning men “shout b*stards!” before they are shot dead while still on fire.

Drug trafficking armed groups ‘Los Escorpiones’, ‘Los Metros’ and ‘Los Ciclones’ emerged during the leadership of the CDG of the brothers Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, aka Tony Tormenta, and Osiel Cardenas Guillen.

The three groups have kept a violent fight over the control of the CDG after Osiel Cardenas Guillen was extradited to the United States in 2007 and his brother was killed in 2010 during a shootout between the Mexican Navy and the CDG

The three groups started as armed factions of the CDG allegedly formed by ex-policemen and former army soldiers but it is unclear who leads the groups at the moment.

Reports said that local authorities have not been able to identify the exact location where the video was recorded or the men in the video.
