Salcido was a commander in the hitman group ‘La Tropa del Infierno’ (Troops From Hell) which forms part of the ‘Cartel Del Noreste’ (CDN) and was reportedly the third-most important member of CDN.

He was one of the most-wanted criminals by the ‘Binational Program for Security and Prosperity in Tamaulipas-Texas’ after rising up the ranks of CDN.

Local media report Salcido was shot during the attack which left a patrol car and one of the vehicles the hitmen were using in flames after bullets penetrated their petrol tanks.

The hitman was wounded and later died at a medical clinic where he was receiving treatment.

Another hitman was found receiving medical attention in the same centre and was detained after medical staff alerted local police of a death resulting from bullet wounds.

The detained hitman’s identity has not been reported.

Two state policemen were also injured in the shootout however they have already been discharged from hospital and are recuperating from their wounds.

According to reports, the second vehicle the assailants were travelling in was apprehended and high-calibre weapons, munition and a seemingly kidnapped man were found.

It is unclear why the man was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting or why he was apprehended by the hitmen.

The ‘La Tropa del Infierno’ group are known for their brutality in Mexico participating in murders, kidnappings, terrorism and grand theft auto among others.

Salcido reportedly escaped custody from the juvenile detention centre ‘Guemez Guardianship Council for Minors’ along with another seven people in June of 2017.

The CDN cartel is one of the largest in Mexico and though their main activity is drug-trafficking, they also participate in extortion, sex-trafficking, money laundering and human trafficking among other illegal activities.
