The accident was filmed in the North Yunderup locality near the coastal city of Mandurah in the Australian state of Western Australia yesterday (Tuesday).

Officers started pursuing the Subaru Impreza after it was spotted on a motorway as it had been reported stolen from a house in Armadale suburb on the previous night (Monday).

The video shows the moment police chase the stolen vehicle which was later found to be driven by a 31-year-old suspect who has not been named.

The stolen car is seen speeding past other drivers on a motorway as a helicopter from the Western Australia Police air wing follows it.

At one point a rear tyre comes off the vehicle as authorities had previously deployed a tyre deflation device called as a stinger but the suspect continues to barrel forward, refusing to stop.

The video cuts to show him switch to a motorway while heading in the wrong direction in an apparently last desperate attempt to escape police.

However, it violently crashes with a Toyota Rav 4 being driven and the Subaru catches fire as the video ends.

Another shows the moment police detain the suspect who is seen in pain as he is taken out of the vehicle.

The Toyota was being driven by “a woman in her 50s” who received “minor injuries and was taken to Peel Health Campus” according to a statement by police.
