A cabbie’s on-board camera has captured the moment he dozes off at the wheel and crashes into the back of a construction vehicle on a motorway.

The high-speed collision on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway resulted in five injuries, including the taxi driver, his passenger and three road workers.

Dashcam footage nearby car shows the unnamed cabbie’s white SUV in the motorway fast lane when the accident happens in the city of Shenzhen in China’s southern Guangdong Province.

He slams into the back of the parked construction vehicle, destroying the front end of his car in the process.

On-board camera footage showing the interior of the car shows the cabbie slowly shutting his eyes and nodding off as the oblivious passenger rides in the back seat.

It is unclear whether the client has a seat belt on when the cabbie falls asleep and wakes a second later to find himself on a collision course with the parked vehicle.

The rear-end crash sends his car spinning on the motorway, and the video shows him still strapped to his seat but looking dazed and confused as part of his roof has been crushed and his windscreen has disappeared.

Shenzhen police say none of the five victims was in any life-threatening condition after the accident.

They were still receiving treatment at the time of writing, while the incident is still being investigated.
