A 52-year-old Canadian woman who sold up her house to start a new life with her 13-year-younger musician boyfriend in Cuba has been found dead in a suitcase in a rubbish tip.

Nathalie Fraser, who originally came from the Canadian city of Montreal, was reported as missing on 18th January, according to her relatives.

She had moved to Cuba in December 2019 where she lived with her boyfriend, identified as 39-year-old musician Leonel Leon Nuviola, in the western Cuban province of the same name.

According to local media, her body was found in a suitcase dumped in a rubbish top and her Cuban boyfriend has been arrested in connection with her death.

The victim’s sister told local media: “We learned it was a violent murder, that she suffered a lot. Her body was found inside a suitcase on a garbage site.”

The victim’s daughter Melanie Fraser said on a Canadian radio station that the couple appeared very much in love, adding: “She put her house up for sale and left with almost nothing to live there with him, with the eventual goal of getting married.”

Family members also complained about the lack of information from the Cuban authorities regarding the case.

According to local media her boyfriend is currently considered the main suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.

Last year, two Italian men were killed in Cuba, including 74-year-old tourist Raffaele Testagrossa whose body was found dismembered. Actor Franco Cardellino, 64, was killed during a burglary at his home, according to local media.
