The incident took place in the Caribbean port city of Cartagena on 4th March.

A camera inside the business caught the moment panic broke out after the gunman stormed in and opened fire.

Footage shows how hairdressers and customers cower before running for their lives, while at least two men can be seen hopping or limping outside.

Local media reported that Colombia U-17 star Rafael Santos Mercado was caught up in the shooting and sustained a leg injury.

The 17-year-old, who was waiting for his turn to have his hair cut, was hit by one of the first bullets fired by the gunman.

The Real Cartagena man had been looking forward to taking part in the South American U-17 Championship in Ecuador from 30th March.

While Santos Mercado was able to hop out of the hairdresser’s, the hitman’s intended target could only take cover behind the counter at the back of the shop.

The victim, 23-year-old Keiner Enrique Blanco Mercado, was shot several times and died at the scene.

Authorities in Bolivar Department are now investigating the killing.

As well as Santos Mercado, one other man was reportedly injured in the shooting.

Real Cartagena President Renato Damiani told local media: “According to the medical report, they must initially wait for the swelling to go down in the affected parts, as a part of his femur was also affected.

“The doctors will come in the next few days to determine the scheduling of the surgery and the subsequent recovery treatment, which I’m sure will take several months.”

The club said in a statement: “Real Cartagena FC reports with great sadness that our Colombia national U-17 team player, Rafael Mercado, was injured during a contract killing while he was at a hairdresser’s in the city.
