A pair of Saudi Arabian influencers are facing jail for posting holiday videos of them wearing bikinis on social media.

The pair had been staying at a luxury resort in the Indian Ocean paradise island and had uploaded the footage on social media.

They have already been fined a massive USD 170,000 by the Saudi General Commission for Audiovisual Media for insulting the Maldives.

Now the two girls are reportedly likely to face further sanctions after many Internet users demanded punishment for “inapropriate clothes” that breach Islamic standards.

Lawyer Hamood Al Najim was quoted on Al Ikhbariah – a State-run TV channel – saying that the punishment for filming and sharing content that “damaged community morals” could be up to five years in jail.

The influencers – named as Rahaf Al Gahtani and Morawaj Al Rahili – have since taken down some videos from their Instagram and Snapchat channels.

Some still present show one of the influencers in a modest ankle-length sundress with bare shoulders and hair.

The GCAM announced on Twitter that it was to “fine two social media famous people for violating media content standards”.

It said the violation was “offense towards a friendly country.”
