A businessman has been arrested for contracting hitmen to shoot his beautiful wife 13 years his junior in the head.
This video footage shows Karina dos Santos Origa, aged 35, leaving the gym in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo on the morning of Tuesday, 14th December.
It was the last time she was seen alive before her lifeless body was found with a gunshot wound to the back of the head in a wooded area near the neighbouring city of Mairipora hours later.
The Civil Police (Brazil’s investigative police force) arrested her husband, 48-year-old Edson Bueno Lopes, on Thursday. As of Saturday, he has denied ordering her killing.
At least four people, who were travelling in a silver Ford Fiesta, are believed to have participated in the woman’s murder, and the police are searching for them.
As no signs of sexual violence were found, nor were any personal belongings taken, investigators believe it may have either been a crime of passion or motivated by a financial disagreement within her husband’s accounting firm, where she also worked.
Her burnt-out car was found in Sao Paulo.
The investigators revealed that the couple’s neighbours in the apartment block where they lived called security after overhearing an argument between them the day before the alleged crime.
According to the police, there were inconsistencies and contradictions in the businessman’s version of events.
They also noted that his wife had filed a police report against him, accusing him of domestic violence, in 2018.
According to police chief Virginia Sellmer, the man told his wife at the time: “I’m going to have you killed.”
The two had been married since 2009.
The businessman is being held in custody in the town of Cajamar. At the time of reporting, he had not yet been formally charged.
The investigation is ongoing.
