This 22-year-old family father has been charged with murdering his eight-year-old cousin after the child’s beaten and burnt body was reportedly found on embers at his home.

Local media report suspect Sergio Ramon Oliveira, 22, who has at least one child the same age, had taken his cousin Guadalupe, 8, to a birthday party in the town of Lobos, in the eastern Argentina province of Buenos Aires.

Oliveira reportedly asked the girl’s mother if he could take her to the party because she often played well with his own child.

Guadalupe’s mother, whose name has not been revealed, told reporters she then did not hear from her daughter and Oliveira was not answering her calls so she informed the police.

Local newspaper Clarin report that officers went to the suspect’s home and found the victim’s body on the embers of a fire with clear signs of violence and burns.

An autopsy reportedly showed the girl had suffered serious injuries to her skull and showed signs of having been beaten in the face. The cause of death was reportedly damage to her vital organs.

A preliminary report from the autopsy showed that burns to the victim’s genital area had removed any possible evidence of sexual assault.

Forensic experts said the girl had tried to defend herself and the suspect reportedly had scratches on his body which could have been from the victim.

The suspect was arrested and charged with homicide, while investigators are awaiting the final results of the autopsy.

Reports state the suspect had gone to a relative’s house before the discovery of the girl’s body and said “I could not save her” and “I f*cked up”.

The investigation is ongoing and no motive has been provided for the crime.
