This is the moment a sleepy bus passenger who cannot find any loose change accidentally puts his iPhone into a coin box when trying to pay with the handheld device.

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera onboard the B20 bus in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province in Central China, on 9th December.

In the video, the young commuter named only as Mr Sun is seen standing by the front door while waiting for another passenger to pay his fare.

Bus driver Zhu Guoguang, who notices Mr Sun cannot find any loose change, comments: “You can pay with your phone too.”

Seemingly without thinking, Mr Sun brings his phone over to the farebox and the contactless payment sensor next to it, but suddenly drops his Apple device among the coins and banknotes.

This leaves Mr Zhu shocked, and Mr Sun begins fumbling around the coin box while trying to find a way to retrieve his iPhone.

But Mr Zhu explained that he did not have access to the coin box, and that Mr Sun would need to wait in the bus operator’s office until authorised personnel could retrieve his phone at the end of shift.

The young man was reunited with his iPhone the following day.

Mr Zhu said: “I told him he could pay with his phone if he didn’t have cash. Who knew he would throw his entire phone into the coin box?

“There were lots of people on the bus at the time, and I didn’t notice it in time.”

Mr Sun explained: “He told me I could pay with my phone.

“I woke up too early and was still groggy, so I dropped my phone into the box.”
