This incredible photographs as a bullet that wedged itself in the head of a passerby after being fired at a nearby shooting range.
The shocking accident happened when the 22-year-old victim had climbed out of his car two miles away from the firing range at the southern Romanian town of Targu Carbunesti in Gorj County.
Police said that the man had just got out of the car was closing the door when he was hit by the bullet, which fortunately because of the distance no longer had the power to enter all the way into his brain.
But it nevertheless wedged in his skull, and he had to be rushed to hospital in an ambulance where surgeons decided it was too risky to operate straightaway, and instead he was moved to a large hospital in the town of Craiova where specialist removed the bullet in an emergency operation.
The man told police that he felt something striking on the head and that he had been on a public road when it happened.
Ironically it appeared that happened at exactly the time police officers were practising their shooting skills on the firing range shortly before midday.
Alin Ivan, Public Relations Representative from the local Gendarmes Inspectorate, said: “More than a hundred gendarmes took part in this planned shooting. Currently, I can’t tell you more details.”
Authorities say that although every precaution is taken, they also warn people when shooting classes are taking place in the area.
The training includes the use of machine guns capable of firing bullets more than 3 kilometres (1.86 miles).
However, it is not clear whether all safety rules at the landfill site where the shooting range is have been followed.
