This is the moment a kindhearted builder is swung across an icy lake inside the bin of a digger to rescue a half-frozen dog trapped on the ice.

The incident was filmed in the city of Yekaterinburg in the western Russian region of Sverdlovsk Oblast and the video was later posted on YouTube where it has been viewed over 50,000 times.

According to reports, construction workers were finishing a long shift at around 3am when they heard the distant barks of a desperate dog.

One builder identified as Vitor and an unnamed colleague realised that the barking was coming from a nearby lake.

The pair first tried to rescue the canine from the icy deathtrap with rope, but when they failed to lasso the animal they decided to use the excavator.

One builder sat in the scoop while the other manoeuvred him to the dog’s position on the icy surface.

According to the men, the dog had spent over 40 minutes on the ice by the time they rescued it.

Reports said the poor pooch could not move its front paws and its hind legs were almost frozen stiff as well.

There have been no further updates on its condition.

Netizen ‘Ezhik Spravedliviy’ said: “Great job guys! I have a lot of admiration for you did. Deeds like that deserve a lot of respect.”

‘Petrovich’ commented: “I have so much respect for you!”
