Madrid emergency services arrived at the scene and were able to retrieve the man’s body but reportedly could do nothing but confirm his death.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM local time.

Local media report the accident was due to lack of risk prevention measures at the site so the General Union of Workers (UGT) and the Worker’s Commissions (CCOO) have called for a strike today (Thursday 17th October) as the incident marks the 12th death in the construction sector so far this year.

The hotel the deceased builder was working on will mark the first hotel the Juventus striker has in Spain and the third including the two he currently owns in Portugal, one in Funchal on his home island of Madeira and one in the capital Lisbon.

The ex-Manchester United forward is reportedly building an exclusive eight-floor hotel on the site with a 210-square-metre (2260 square foot) penthouse.

According to Spanish media outlet ABC, the hotel will have 164 rooms.
