The authorities in Bali are investigating whether a British national who left an abandoned motorbike is the foreigner who might have plunged off a cliff at a local beauty spot.

As well as the abandoned bike that was rented by a British person living at a nearby villa cops have also recovered a towel and a bottle of booze at the top of the cliff that was seemingly also abandoned by the suspected victim.

Local media report Bali’s Search and Rescue Agency received a call after worried local residents called the police saying a motorbike had been parked in the Pecatu area of the South Kuta District in the south of the Indonesian island of Bali for some time.

Located in the southwestern peninsula of Bali it is famous for its towering clidffs overlooking beaches that are popular with surfers. The high cliffs that keep beaches private are also popular with nudists.

Police went to the scene and found the motorbike along with what are believed to be the bike user’s belongings including a bottle of alcohol, a black bag and a towel.

The motorbike has been traced back to a British national identified in reports by his initials R.R.

Local media say police suspect a foreign national jumped off the cliff on the afternoon of 19th January but have not yet confirmed if the bike user and the person that left the clothes and possibly jumped are the same person.

Kuta Police Chief Yusak Agustinus told reporters that investigators are working to confirm if the victim had committed suicide or fallen off the cliff whilst also not ruling out the possibility that he “might have simply gone somewhere else”.

The incident comes after a man from Belarus, 34, fell from the Tanjung Mebulu cliff in the same area of Pecatu in October 2019. The local authorities searched for his body for seven days without success, with high tides believed to have swept his body away.
