Brit In Online Relationship With Argentine Woman For Over 10 Years Marries Her After Spending Time Together In Lockdown

A British man who has been in an online friendship with an Argentine woman for over 10 years has married her after they spent time together in lockdown.

Josh Queen, 28, is British and he started an online relationship with Argentine national Marisol Colombo, 29, after they met on social media when she was a student, according to local media outlet Infobae.

Marisol said: “I was studying to be an English teacher at university, and I was looking for an opportunity to improve. In my browser, I found profiles of North Americans and Brits.”

She sent friend requests to a number of them and Josh was one of those who accepted.

Marisol said: “Within a few words, I felt there was a very strong connection. The conversation flowed from the beginning: it seemed that we had known each other forever.”

At first, it was not about love, both of them were in relationships with other people, but at some point Marisol decided to end her relationship with her boyfriend, and with more time to talk to other friends including Josh, she discovered that he was also suddenly single at the same time.

She said that he was “in the middle of a separation”.

And she added: “We resumed our connection with conversations during the day, at night. The affection was intact.”

As technology advanced, written messages became voice chats and video calls.

Marisol proposed a face-to-face meeting as they both wanted to put an end to the distance separating them, but what might have been a shorter meeting ended up as five months stuck together in lockdown.

Marisol had bought a plane ticket to London but due to the rise of the coronavirus pandemic, her flight was cancelled over 10 times before she succeeded in making it to the UK.

And Josh was waiting for her. Marisol said: “When I saw him, I couldn’t do anything but run to hug him. All that I had felt through messages, calls, multiplied by a thousand.”

They kissed and then ended up living together during the pandemic in London for almost five months.

Marisol said: “Being with him I wondered why I had wasted so much time. Being with him makes me a better person.”

Days before Marisol’s birthday, Josh invited her to tour the city of Bath. She accepted without knowing what was in store. Marisol said: “He prepared a speech in Spanish with the help of a friend, all to ask for my hand.”

Minutes before noon and in the middle of a coastal walk on 17th April, Josh got down on one knee, looked her in the eyes, and asked Marisol to marry him.

She said: “I did not hesitate. I said yes, and we cried.”

Planning the wedding proved a challenge, as borders remained tight during the pandemic. Marisol had to return home to Chaco, which is a province in north-eastern Argentina known for its nature reserves and natural beauty, due to her tourist visa expiring.

But this did not stop them planning the wedding and she said: “The truth is that it was very complex, because the borders for foreigners were still closed. It was agony.”

Josh finally made it to Argentina in August this year. They were married on 10th September 2021, during an intimate ceremony overlooking the Parana River, in the city of Resistencia.

Marisol said: “From London, his relatives connected by Zoom and accompanied us with their own party.”

Their honeymoon lasted 10 days and they went to the Iguazu Falls, which is the largest waterfall in the world.

Marisol said: “Josh told me it’s the most beautiful place he’s ever set foot in. It was beautiful to discover the country through his eyes. I love his way of enjoying life.”

They have now been married for three months.

Josh had to return to London due to his work obligations.

Marisol is anxious and has already applied for a marriage visa, which comes with a 60-day waiting period.

She said Josh wants “to live in Argentina. He fell in love with the country.

“Every day it gets harder. I miss him a lot, I want to make up for those 10 years of distance.”
