A British man has been extradited back to the UK after being found guilty of ‘grooming’ a minor but fled to Mexico before he could be sentenced.

The British national was handed over to UK officials at the Mexico City International Airport in the Mexican capital, according to a statement by the Attorney General of Mexico on 13th December.

The suspect has been identified as Roderick F. who pleaded guilty to the crime of “indecent communication” with a minor over social media between 30th December 2015 and 24th January 2016.

He was scheduled to appear in court to receive his sentence on 5th December 2016. However, Roderick fled the country and had been on the run until he was apprehended by Mexican police.

Officials have not reported how he was detained or if there was a joint operation for his arrest.

According to the Attorney General’s statement, the British man is wanted by the Airdrie Sheriff Court in Scotland and was extradited in accordance with an Extradition Treaty between both countries.

Roderick will now serve his sentence for his previous crime and will have to answer for failing to appear for his sentencing without a suitable reason.
