French film icon Brigitte Bardot has claimed that human overpopulation has “upset the balance” and caused COVID-19 and not animals sold at wet markets.

The 86-year-old Hollywood legend made the comments in an interview with France Soir for the release of the latest edition of her autobiography ‘BB’.

The former actress and singer, who is also well known as an animal rights activist, said that she does not believe the pandemic was caused by animals sold at wet markets or even by accident.

Bardot, who was a sex symbol of the 1950s and 60s, said: “The virus arrived on time just before the planet exploded, ravaged by uncontrolled and uncontrollable human demographics.

“As humans don’t have a predator other than themselves, they multiply indefinitely without any birth control. They invade, destroy, ravage and infiltrate anything that prevents them prevents them from multiplying”.

According to Brigitte Bardot, “the balance has been upset” because “there are too many humans” and “not enough animal species”.

When asked by Le Figaro in April about how she envisaged the post-coronavirus era, Bardot stated: “With my animal instinct, I feel a global revolt will take place against the way humans have ravaged the planet. It started with global warming, floods, fires.

“The planet is suffocating with a frightening demography. This is the basis of all the problems that are disrupting our lives now.”

Bardot also claimed that the human race will not learn its lesson in time: “Nothing will change, the lure of gain will remain the strongest. Greed, stupidity and ignorance will drive the world crazy.”
