This dashcam footage reportedly shows a violent explosion at a Chinese food factory as a boiler ruptures and it sends a giant fireball into the air.

The video taken in Licheng District in Putian, a coastal city in East China’s Fujian Province, shows the otherwise darkened sky being ignited by the blast at around 7:20pm local time on 11th January.

Surveillance footage from a nearby residence also shows a bright flash of light across the sky at the moment of the explosion, followed by shades of red and yellow as a fire burns on the factory grounds.

According to reports, the incident happened inside a local food production company where a boiler is believed to have exploded.

The district Emergency Management Office has confirmed that one person identified as the factory’s owner has been killed.

However, officials have yet to comment on speculation that the blast resulted from an operating mistake.

Doors and windows of nearby residents were said to have been shattered by the resulting shockwave, with the front of the metal boiler – reported to weigh some 550 lbs – found mangled out of shape as it crashed out of factory grounds.

The fire service brought the blaze under control later the same evening, with no other injuries reported, the office said.

Investigations were still ongoing at the time of writing.
