Brazilian Woman Dies After No Anaesthetic Cosmetics Procedure At Clinic In Rio Shopping Centre

A woman has died during a plastic surgery procedure at a clinic in a shopping centre in Rio de Janeiro.

The incident took place at the Carioca Shopping shopping centre in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro in south-eastern Brazil, last Friday, 17th December.

The victim has been named as Maria Jandimar Rodrigues, 39, and the person who operated on her has been named as a Colombian man called Brad Alberto Castrillon, who reportedly tried to flee the scene before being stopped by one of the shopping centre’s security guards.

The suspect was taken to a nearby police station, where he was released after presenting the clinic’s documents. The local police closed down the establishment on Saturday 18th December, the same day that Maria’s family released video footage allegedly showing the victim struggling during the first of two procedures at the clinic.

In the footage, Maria reportedly says that she is in a lot of pain. The employee she is speaking to, in audio of the first operation, reportedly said: “It was hard to keep you on the stretcher. You started screaming, we thought you were feeling something. We had already given you anaesthesia and everything. And you kept screaming, screaming, screaming. Then we even saw that you didn’t respond when we spoke to you.”

The footage pertains to the first operation, during which she had fat removed from her back, on 10th December. She had a second operation a week later, reportedly a hydrolipo, which is a procedure to remove localised fat, during which she died.
