This is the moment a brave Russian mum jumps into an icy pond to save her struggling dog that fell in while chasing ducks.

The incident took place in the town of Mytischi just outside the western Russian capital Moscow when the mum was enjoying a stroll with two of her three kids.

In the footage, the fearless mum, identified as Alina Naumova, is seen wading through the frozen water and smashing the ice with just a T-shirt on her upper body to get to the struggling pooch.

She seems to rescue the dog the very moment it starts to disappear underwater.

The mother then brings the dog ashore before being helped out by a group of onlookers.

The kindhearted woman, who works as a paediatrician and gastroenterologist at a local medical centre, said that her dog ran onto the ice when it spotted some ducks.

Alina later said: “I could not let my dog drown on my watch with me simply standing by.”

She said that onlookers helped her to change her clothes and give her blankets.

Naumova said that she was simply acting to help a family member and does not see her act as anything out of the ordinary.
