This is the moment brave supermarket cashiers fight off two masked men wielding meat cleavers before one of them manages to restrain one of the thugs leading to his arrest.

The incident took place at a LuLu Hypermarket in the city of Sharjah in north-eastern United Arab Emirates (UAE) when the suspects, reportedly of African origin, entered with meat cleavers at around 11.40pm.

The supermarket’s CCTV footage shows shoppers ditching their trolleys and running away as the suspects target the tills.

As one masked man attempts to open a till, a plucky cashier attacks him with a carton of milk and the pair begin to brawl.

The other cleaver-wielding thug stands nearby, but appears reluctant to intervene.

Meanwhile, several employees help their colleague who is still struggling with the thief at the end of the clip.

According to reports, supermarket workers managed to restrain the thugs and call for the cops as his accomplice fled the store.

He was later picked up in Sharjah Industrial Zone Four and both men are currently in police custody.

During questioning, the pair reportedly admitted to attempting to rob the supermarket while armed with sharp blades.
