This is the moment a brave taxi driver fights back against a gunman who holds a pistol to his head and grabs his neck in the moving vehicle causing the assailant to flee.

The incident took place in the western Ecuadorian province of Manabi and was recorded by a security camera inside the taxi after the gunman had reportedly gone into the vehicle with another person pretending to be passengers.

In the video, the unnamed taxi driver can be seen in the driver’s seat as the gunman holds his neck from behind and points a gun at him.

The gunman asks the driver to put up the windows of the car.

The driver then tries to grab the criminal’s pistol from behind his head and reaches back with both hands to fight the gunman off.

The criminal then sprints away from the scene and the cabbie runs out of the car.

The driver told local media “I thought about a thousand things, about my family, my children.”

Local media reported that the thieves managed to steal 35 USD (28 GBP). The driver reported the case to the authorities but so far nobody has been arrested although thanks to the video the suspect had reportedly been identified.

Abel Gomez, the President of the National Union of Transport Drivers in Manabi told local media that so far this year, 10 assaults have been reported and added that “the situation is concerning”.
