Boyfriend Turns Himself In After Businesswoman Found Dead In Overturned Pickup Truck With 3 Gunshot Wounds To Head

This businesswoman was found dead in her overturned pickup truck with three gunshot wounds to the head, and her boyfriend has now turned himself in to the police.

The incident was discovered in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the south-eastern Brazilian state of the same name on Sunday, 13th February, when the lifeless body of Flavia Euflazia da Silva, 44, was found in her pickup truck that had overturned.

Although the first police officers on the scene initially thought they were dealing with a road accident, it quickly emerged that the victim had been shot in the head.

The main suspect was quickly named by police as Alan de Oliveira da Silva, age not reported, and he turned himself into police in the city of Teresopolis, also in the state of Rio de Janeiro, on Tuesday, 15th February.

He had been missing since his girlfriend’s death and was considered the prime suspect in the case, which investigators are treating as femicide.

The victim was found with bloodstains on the outside of her vehicle, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office subsequently negotiated for the suspect to surrender, convincing his family members to persuade him to turn himself in, which he did after asking for officers to accompany him during his surrender.

The suspect was reportedly jailed in 2019 for drug trafficking and was serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest at the time of the alleged femicide.

According to the autopsy report, Flavia died from three gunshot wounds to the head. One bullet was retrieved and is reportedly being analysed. Another reportedly went straight through her body.

The victim’s sister Fabia Euflazia was quoted in local media as saying: “It was initially a surprise for us because we were told that it was just an accident. Now, with the death certificate being released, we got the information that bullets were found.”

An unnamed man who was reportedly working on Flavia’s house told police that neighbours telephoned him at around 4am on Sunday morning to notify him about a car accident.

When he went to the scene and realised the victim was Flavia, he went to the house to warn her partner, but instead of finding him, he reportedly found shattered glass, bloodstains, and a motorbike tyre mark on the ground, as well as an empty casing.

The victim was buried yesterday morning (Wednesday, 16th February) at the Jardim da Saudade Cemetery in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Before the suspect turned himself in, the police had released a photograph requesting help from the public and asking eyewitnesses to come forward.

Flavia, who described herself online as a horse breeder but who primarily worked as an interior designer, leaves behind a teenage son, who has not been named.

Her sister Fabia said: “My family is suffering a lot from this. She was always a good person, lots of friends and always helped a lot of people. There is no one who can speak badly of her. I just want justice done in this case. I do not ask for anything else.”
