This is the moment firefighters free a crying boy from a crashed lorry and he was completely unscathed thanks to his grandmother reportedly shielding him with her own body.

The two-year-old boy and his grandparents had been trapped in their mangled lorry cabin after crashing off-road in the city of Guangyuan in China’s southern Guangdong Province.

The fire service arrived 30 minutes later to find the trio unable to free themselves, with the footage showing them having prised the lorry door open to reach the victims inside.

The toddler is the first to be rescued, the clip shows, as firemen lift the crying boy to safety by handing him over to other rescuers waiting nearby.

Authorities say he was unharmed after having been shielded by his grandmother as the vehicle crashed off-road and continued down a 10-foot slope before it stopped.

The two grandparents, who suffered more serious injuries, were freed roughly 40 minutes later after firefighters managed to expand the space in the mangled cabin with specialised tools.

According to the authorities, all three were taken to hospital, and were not in any life-threatening condition.

The police said they were still investigating the accident but believed the slippery road may have contributed to the crash.
