Boy Racer Had James Bond Style Number Plate Flipper

It’s enough to make James Bond’s spymaster gadget guru ‘Q’ flip.

Police in the Czech Republic have seized a boy racer’s Subaru after he was found with a version of the iconic British spy’s revolving licence plates from his Aston Martin DB5.

The device was first seen on screen in 1964’s ‘Goldfinger’ and helped Bond disguise his legendary motor from his arch enemy.

But police in Prague were less easily fooled when they pulled over a silver Subaru and their rear view camera picked up the driver apparently switching number plates.

The clip shows that as the car pulls into the side of the road the front licence plate spins over revealing a different plate beneath.

Further footage shows police demonstrating how the gadget works before the footage ends.

Czech police later told local media that although the plates were on the national register neither of them belonged to the vehicle they’d stopped.

They said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “The patrol decided to stop the car in the prescribed manner and carry out a proper road inspection.

“After stopping, however, they noticed that the vehicle behind them had changed its front licence plate while driving, as we know from action movie scenes.

“During the inspection, the police officers discovered that the driver was using a mechanical system capable of reversing the registration plate installed on it.

“Both versions of licence plates were valid and neither was reported as stolen or lost.”

They added: “The police asked the driver to comment on this fact, but he said that he was not aware of anything like that and refused to give out the registration plates.

“As the driver was suspected of an illegal act, the police took away the licence plates that were not assigned to the vehicle in question.”

Local media reports that the would-be Bond faces a driving ban for up to a year and a fine of up to CZK 50,000 (GBP 1,724).
