A toddler has died after being forgotten by a nursery school manager who collected him from his family but then forgot him in the car where he suffocated.

The three-year-old victim, identified as Muhammad Harraz Aryan Mohd Hafizi, died on the way from the nursery to the Sultan Abdul Halim Shah Hospital in the town of Sungai Petani in the Malaysian state of Kedah on 16th March.

Police spokesperson Adzli Abu Shah said the boy and another child were collected by the unnamed manager, 49, at around 7.45am.

The victim sat in the backseat of the woman’s Proton Waja while the other child, aged 5, sat in the passenger’s seat.

The police said the older child was taken by another teacher when they arrived at the nursery school, and school began with the victim left in the car as the manager had apparently thought both kids had been removed by her colleague.

Adzli Abu Shah said: “The nursery school manager parked her car outside the kindergarten and turned off the car engine without realising that the victim was still inside the car.

“However, when she was ready to send the victim home, she realised that the victim was not in class and the class teacher informed her that the victim had not been there all day.”

The woman manager then went straight to her vehicle and found the boy unconscious inside, according to the police.

The police said the boy was in the car with the windows and doors closed between the hours of 8am and 12.15pm.

She added: “Before leaving for work at dawn yesterday, I saw that Muhammad Harraz Aryan was still sleeping and usually, his grandmother would get him ready to go to nursery school.

“I was shocked by what happened and I’m confident the police will investigate this properly and take the proper action.”

An autopsy was carried out on the boy and his body was buried at the Raudhatul Solihin Muslim Cemetery.

The investigation continues.
