Boy, 11, Buys GBP 800 Gold Necklace For His One Month Old Pet Kitten

A gold chain wearing Iraqi boy aged 11 has bought a matching necklace as a present – for his one-month-old pet kitten.

The images were taken in a jewellery shop in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and are now trending on social media and in Middle Eastern news outlets.

The young boy, Ahmed, reportedly adopted the cat, whose full name is ‘Bazouna’ but whose nickname is ‘Zozo’, after its mother gave birth to a litter of four kittens at his home. But she took care of only three of them, leaving poor ‘Zozo’ to fend for itself.

So he adopted her and after reportedly waiting one month to make sure that she was in good health, Ahmed decided to buy Zozo the gold necklace that she can be seen sporting in the photos.

Saudi Arabia newspaper Al-Watan said that in the images, the kitten can even be seen “smiling”.

The gold chain is reportedly worth IQD 1.6 million (GBP 800).

The jewellery store owner, who has not been named, is quoted in Al-Watan as saying: “The mother cat gave birth to four kittens in Ahmed’s house, and the mother took only three kittens and left the cat Zozo, and the cat stayed at the home, so Ahmad took care of her and raised her.”

In the images, Ahmed, whose last name has not been revealed, can be seen sporting a similar gold chain along with his feline protegee Zozo.

The jewellery store’s Facebook post has notched up nearly 20,000 likes and over 36 ,000 comments.
