Reports said the boy lost his memory before passing away, reportedly from rabies, according to local media Tribune Medan (https://bit.ly/3wHVhHe).

The mother said that after the bite when her son began showing signs of illness, he fell asleep and never woke up.

She was quoted by the same paper as saying: “He was left very weak, and after making a report about what happened he went to sleep. He was not the same usual, cheerful child after being bitten, he wasn’t like he usually is, I guess it was the influence of the rabies virus in his body.”

The symptoms of rabies typically take between one to 3 months to appear although depending on the severity of the bite it can be within a few days.

The family’s lawyer Oki Andriansyah said the boy lost his appetite and had an inability to eat or drink, one of the symptoms of rabies is the inability to swallow.

Meanwhile, the family confronted the owner of the dog, but they refused to take responsibility for the incident and even challenged them to file a report with the authorities, according to Andriansyah.

The youngster’s family has since filed a complaint with the police and the matter is now under investigation by the Crime Investigation Unit of the Medan Provincial Police.
